WH Pierce 1992: Peter Green

Peter was Curator of the NCIMB culture collection and head of microbiology services at NCIMB and served two terms on the SfAM Executive Committee.
He was also a board member with the World Federation of Culture Collections (WFCC) and Chair of the Endangered Culture Collections sub-committee.
His main contribution to bacterial taxonomy centered on a diverse group of pink pigmented facultatively methylotrophic bacteria. He was sole author of the genus Methylobacterium in both Bergey’s Manual and the Prokaryotes. Other interests were in microbial biofilms and biocide efficacy testing for the offshore oil industry.
